A man and a woman rescued from their damaged yacht, found drifting in the Atlantic, are in good health, the Irish Coastguard has confirmed.

A rescue effort to bring the couple onto land began on Saturday after their yacht was spotted by an Irish Air Corps helicopter off the Kerry coastline.

The sailors set out for Britain from the West Indies two weeks ago. The man is understood to be British.

A storm damaged their navigational systems and they were set adrift.

An RNLI lifeboat went to their rescue, taking them from the yacht which was stranded 68 miles out. The damaged yacht was later towed to Valentia.
