A paedophile from whom police seized one million indecent images of children has been given a suspended jail term.

Robert James Barrow, 57, of Plaistow, east London, admitted to making and possessing indecent images of children.

Barrow was sentenced to a 12-month jail term suspended for two years by Southwark Crown Court.

Acting Det Ch Insp Noel McHugh said Barrow's collection, which he gathered over 15 years, was one of the "largest ever" seized from one person.

'Industrial scale'

Barrow was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and was issued with a three-month curfew and made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order.

The images in Barrow's possession ranged from level one to level five, level five being of the most serious nature.

Mr McHugh said: "The seizure of images from Barrow is the largest ever seen by my unit in relation to one individual. His activities were on an industrial scale."
