But what does it mean for the Oscars? The Globes have had a poor track record in recent years for predicting the best picture winner in February.
In 2011 the Globes backed The Social Network, which got trounced by The King's Speech a month later.
Things could be different this year: The Globes wins for the The Artist and The Descendants sets the scene for a two-horse race at the Oscars.
Meryl Streep's actress win for The Iron Lady also bodes well for an Oscar statuette, though no-one should discount Michelle Williams who also picked up an acting Globe for My Week With Marilyn.
