Garforth murders: Partner held over mum and girl's deaths

A man remains in custody after being arrested over the deaths of his partner and her daughter who were found dead at a house in Leeds.

Police found the bodies of the woman and girl - named locally as Sarah Laycock, 31, and her eight-year-old daughter Abigail - on Saturday.

A four-year-old girl was also found with minor injuries at the house in Kirkby Avenue, Garforth.

The arrested man has been named locally as Ms Laycock's partner John Miller.

He is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The four-year-old was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and discharged after treatment.

Police were first alerted after reports of an assault at Fairburn Ings nature reserve about five miles away near Castleford.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended and, following initial inquiries, a house search was subsequently conducted at an address in Kirkby Avenue in Garforth in Leeds.

"A 31-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were found deceased in the property.

"A four-year-old girl was also found with minor injuries."
