Version 0 of 1.

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing on Saturday night in Essex.

A 24-year-old man was stabbed several time outside Chutneys Indian restaurant in Saint John's Road, Clacton.

The incident happened at about 23:45 GMT and the man was taken to Basildon University Hospital.

He was in a serious but stable condition on Sunday after being treated for the stab wounds, a police spokesman said.

A police cordon is in place at the scene while a forensic examination takes place.

Ch Insp Paul Wells said: "We are not linking this stabbing to any other previous incident.

"We realise that this is the second knife-related attack in the past couple of months and the seriousness of this problem is not lost on us.

"However, we are confident in saying that the issue is only prevalent in a small section of the town and is confined to a similarly small section of society."

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
