Station manager Rod Horton, who is at the scene, said throughout the blaze officers had suspected gas cylinders were in the building. A range of workshops and warehouses were damaged, as well as around 20 vehicles.
A safety cordon was put up around Wood Lane as a precaution. Station manager Rod Horton, said officers had found the "worst kind" of gas cylinders, containing acetylene, which remains unstable for some time once heated.
He said: "Unfortunately they are the worst kind, acetylene, a very unstable substance, which remains unstable for some time particularly once heated." A spokeswoman later confirmed that the cylinders had been cooled down.
He added that thermal imagining cameras were being used to measure the core temperatures of the cylinders and a combination of water and the ambient temperature were cooling them. A further 40 cylinders of various types that were not involved in the fire were also removed to safety.
'Challenging incident' There are four fire engines at the scene and LFB expects to be there overnight.
He said that it was now a "10-pump incident" and would be scaled down to six fire engines.
