Education Minister Caitriona Ruane has said counsellors will be made available in all post-primary schools from September.

Ms Ruane said the move would reduce stress amongst pupils and could combat the worrying rise in teenage suicides.

"Our education system is stressful and there is a lot of pressure put on our children," she said on Inside Politics.

The minister added that she was looking at a similar counselling programme for primary schools.

Suicide is viewed as a growing problem among teenagers and young people in Northern Ireland.

On Tuesday the bodies of two young men, who had been reported missing, were found at a County Tyrone lake after an apparent suicide pact.
