A neighbour described him as "a friendly, loveable and kind man who never had a bad word to say about anyone". A neighbour spoke of finding the body of the friend he had known for almost 40 years.
'Friendly man'
Jim Comley, 76, said: "I looked through the window and thought I could see an old coat on the grass but then I went out and found him and called the police.
"There was a knife just a yard from him. It was like a carving knife or kitchen knife, about six or seven inches long and one side covered in blood."
The victim has been described by locals as "a friendly, loveable and kind man who never had a bad word to say about anyone".
Officers said they will release the man's name once all his next-of-kin have been informed.
