The bus driver was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation, before being taken to hospital. Transport for London (TfL) said it believed the fire on the H12 bus at Pinner was started "maliciously" and said police were investigating.
London Fire Brigade said it was called to the blaze on Eastcote Road, at the junction with Cannon Lane, at 12:30 BST. The driver was taken to hospital to be treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The fire was under control by 13:00 BST but flames destroyed the upper deck. The bus caught fire on Eastcote Road, at the junction with Cannon Lane, at 12:30 GMT.
Transport for London is yet to comment on the incident. London Fire Brigade had control of the blaze by 13:00 GMT, however flames destroyed the upper deck.
