The body of a teenage soldier swept away during floods in North Yorkshire has been found by a search team.

Police confirmed the 17-year-old's body was found near Catterick Garrison.

The youth, whose identity has yet to be released, and two of his colleagues fell into the swollen Risedale Beck on Hipswell Moor early on Friday.

Two of the soldiers were rescued, but the third was discovered dead by a search team including police, the RAF and the International Rescue Corps.

The victim's next of kin has been identified and a joint police, military and Health and Safety Executive investigation has begun.

The soldier was in a platoon of men attempting to cross the beck on what the Army said was a routine training exercise.

About 50 other soldiers had successfully crossed before him.
