A 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the central Philippines, killing at least one and causing panic in nearby cities. At least seven people have died after a 6.7 magnitude quake struck the central Philippines, official reports say.
The quake hit 70 km north of the city of Dumaguete on Negros Island at 11:49 am (0349 GMT) at a depth of 20 km, the US Geological Survey said. The death toll includes two children, according to the government's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a tsunami alert for a metre high wave along the east coast and west of Cebu City. The quake hit 70km north of Dumaguete city on Negros island at 11.49 (15.49 GMT) at a depth of 20km, according to the US Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a regional tsunami was not expected. Two aftershocks with a magnitude of 4.8 and 5.6 followed.
