South Yorkshire Police said specialist trained police officers were at McAuley Catholic High School helping pupils return to school after half-term. Earlier, pupils at McAuley Catholic High attended a special assembly led by school governor, Father Pat O'Connor.
The force said patrols had been carried out in the local area throughout the weekend. Sheffield Hallam Bishop, John Rawsthorne, has offered his sympathy and prayers for those affected.
Catherine Brown, the head teacher said in a statement: "Support is being provided for students and the school is grateful for the many messages of sympathy and offers of support from many quarters."
