The Parents Advice Centre has said it is dealing with more calls to its helpline from families seeking support over serious child protection issues.

The charity said recent calls include parents who suspect their child is being groomed via internet chat rooms, or has been the victim of sexual abuse.

It has also had calls on children self harming and threatening suicide.

Chief executive of the centre Pip Jaffa said more co-ordination was needed to support families.

"Particularly when we talk about emotional health, we would like to see a much broader implementation of the Bamford Review - the review of child and adolescent mental health," she said.

Mrs Jaffa added that services should be available for families "at community level and that all the people who are supporting families are involved in that".
