MP dies in DR Congo plane crash
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/africa/6229714.stm Version 0 of 1. An aeroplane has crashed into a swamp in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing a member of parliament. The accident happened soon after the plane took off from Kamina in the south-east mining province of Katanga. The other 24 passengers on board and the crew survived the crash but sustained injuries. Correspondents say air accidents are frequent in DR Congo, where private airlines fly old planes mainly from the former Soviet Union. The BBC Lubunga By'aombe in the capital, Kinshasa, says aviation officials have began investigations into the accident. Last year, authorities in the neighbouring Republic of Congo barred some airlines based in Kinshasa from flying into the country citing poor flight safety records, our correspondent says. |
