Rail passengers are facing disruption after heavy rain caused flooding.

Network Rail said water-logging in Fenny Compton, Warwickshire, had caused the line between Leamington Spa and Banbury, Oxfordshire, to close.

The disruption has affected passengers on Virgin and Chiltern Trains, between Birmingham and London.

Virgin Trains said taxis were sent to pick up 100 passengers stranded at Leamington Spa and trains at Birmingham had been cancelled or diverted.

A spokesman said: "Thousands of passengers have had their journeys disrupted.

"At the moment we are terminating some trains at Birmingham and diverting some via London or Bristol, which are going the long way round to get to their destinations."

A spokesman for Network Rail said they closed the line at 2000 BST because of flooding and it will be inspected at 0400 BST on Saturday.
