Plaid Cymru has begun a series of meetings for members to learn the detail of Welsh assembly coalition talks with Labour.

Party leader Ieuan Wyn Jones addressed around 160 people at the first gathering in Caernarfon.

At a further six meetings, he will also explain the progress of separate talks with the Tories and Liberal Democrats over a possible "rainbow alliance".

Plaid president Dafydd Iwan said the party faced a "momentous" decision.

Labour, which is five seats short of a majority in the assembly voted in last month, is to hold a special conference to confirm any Plaid deal.

Plaid Cymru's National Council meets on 7 July to decide on which coalition to form.

Last Sunday, Mr Jones said his AMs would decide which coalition deal they favoured in the next "seven to 10 days".

Mr Jones has written to Plaid members inviting them to attend one of the seven meetings being held across the country.

Plaid Cymru President Dafydd Iwan, speaking before the first of those meetings in Caernarfon on Friday night, said members of his party faced a momentous decision.

He said: "It's right that members know the full picture and it's right that they have all the facts before the National Council meeting on July 7."
