Kim Yeomans, who was travelling on the M42, said: "They've taken the casualty off to hospital in an ambulance. They closed off the whole of the motorway with tape.
"From what I overheard they're now discussing what to do with the traffic that's going southwards and then clearing up the mess.
"The only thing that's left of this truck is half of the cab. The rest of it's completely demolished."
A Highways Agency spokesman said: "We're obviously conscious of the amount of traffic that we've got immediately prior to the scene.
"We're arranging for the barrier to be removed so we can turn some of that traffic around and send it up on the M42 northbound."
