The snowfall trapped half of a group of 12 skiers in Kaafjord, with unconfirmed reports that they may be French. The police chief of Troms district said one of those buried had been pulled out alive while four more had been located via radio transmitters.
The police chief of Tromso district said that the avalanche took place on Mt Sorbmegaisa on Monday afternoon. The snowfall had trapped half of a group of 12 skiers in Kaafjord, with unconfirmed reports they may be French.
He said a medical helicopter had been despatched and the army had been asked to help. Other rescue workers are trying to reach the scene. The avalanche took place on Mt Sorbmegaisa in the north of Troms district on Monday afternoon.
