Two casualties have been taken to hospital, the extent of their injuries are not yet known. Three casualties have been taken to Warrington hospital, including a 40-year-old lorry driver with arm and shoulder injuries.
Cheshire Police have closed the M6 northbound carriageway to allow emergency crews and recovery vehicles to attend. The Highways Agency has reopened one lane on the M6 northbound, after the road was closed on Thursday morning.
The Highways Agency said diversions are in place, with the carriageway expected to be closed for some time. A badly crushed red Volvo V50 was being removed from the carriageway.
All three casualties were said to be in a stable condition.
