Combine harvester hangs from bridge on the A34 in Oxfordshire Combine harvester hangs from bridge on A34 in Oxfordshire
(about 4 hours later)
A combine harvester has been left hanging from a bridge carrying one of Oxfordshire's busiest roads after colliding with a lorry. Efforts are continuing to remove a combine harvester left hanging from a bridge on one of Oxfordshire's busiest roads.
The crash took place on the A34 southbound, at the Pear Tree Interchange at 13:40 BST. The vehicle collided with a lorry before crashing through a barrier on the A34 southbound at the Pear Tree Interchange at 13:40 BST.
The combine harvester hit a barrier over the sliproad, which has been closed due to safety reasons for a recovery team to carry out work. The southbound A34 is closed while the recovery team carry out the work and diversions are in place.
Traffic on the southbound A34 is restricted to one lane.
Specialist equipment is required to recover the combine harvester, which police said was unlikely to happen before 19:00 BST.
The A34 southbound will be closed while the recovery takes place and the barrier is repaired. Local diversions will be in place during this time.

Insp Colin Clark, from Thames Valley Police's Roads Policing Units, said they had no choice but to close the road.
"There was a danger if the combine had gathered momentum and gone through the barrier it would have gone down on to the entry slip court, causing further problems and obviously collisions," he said.
An eyewitness said: "The combine harvester has nearly been pushed over the rails onto the slip road itself, so it's sort of dangling on the edge."
