About 20 cars were left with punctured tyres on the M62 in Merseyside after they ran over metal plates that had dropped off a lorry. | |

A Highways Agency spokesman said: "We started taking calls at about 06:20 this morning, with some drivers saying they were stuck on the hard shoulder because they had gone over some metal. | |
"Traffic officers sent to the scene discovered there had been a shed load of metal plates which had fallen to the ground. | |
"A lorry driver later said he had seen the plates fall from a HGV onto the carriageway." | |
Traffic on the Manchester-bound carriageway is now running as normal. |
