It is now thought Beryl Hope, 70, who died in August 2011, was given contaminated products. It is not known whether it contributed to her death.
Police are reviewing a number of cases at the hospital between June and July 2011. Six deaths in that period have been linked to contaminated saline.
A nurse arrested in relation to the cases was bailed in March.
Victorino Chua, 46, was arrested on suspicion of murdering three patients and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to 18 others at the hospital.
He was initially arrested on 5 January over the tampering of records and has now had his bail extended until 10 September.
'Sadly missed' | |
Mrs Hope's death is the 22nd case to be investigated at the Stockport hospital. | Mrs Hope's death is the 22nd case to be investigated at the Stockport hospital. |
A spokesman for her family said she was "a dearly loved wife, a doting mother and nana to two sons and four grandchildren and is sadly missed by all who knew and loved her".
Detectives are continuing to investigate and review the cases of 21 other patients, including six others - Tracey Arden, Arnold Lancaster, Derek Weaver, William Dickson, Linda McDonagh, and John Beeley - who all subsequently died.
Mrs Hope's death was re-categorised after a two-day case conference by police and medical specialists, which looked at all the evidence gathered so far.
Det Supt Simon Barraclough said his "thoughts and sympathies are with Beryl's loved ones who are understandably upset by this latest development".
He said it was "important to stress that this is not a new case but one we have re-categorised".
"We are continually getting new information and data, all of which is under constant review and scrutiny," he said.
"We continue to make excellent progress but the sheer size and complexity of this investigation dictates that we carry out our inquiries carefully and diligently.
"This takes time and cannot be rushed but rest assured we remain determined to identify whoever is responsible." |
