Of the 13,000 or so students, about a third are from the north-west. Perhaps it's not surprising they haven't strayed too far. Bursaries
Bolton offers a wide range of bursaries and scholarships, including the vice-chancellor's award, which is worth up to £15,000. The university also offers £500 a year to students who have completed a preparatory course or period of study at the university or a partner institution. Accommodation
The university owns and manages two modern purpose-built halls of residence, Orlando and Hollins, which provide 700 single study bedrooms.
Places are offered on a self-catering basis. Both halls are close to the town centre. Freshers cannot be guaranteed accommodation in halls of residence.

Self-catering accommodation cost £69.75 a week in 2011-12, including all utilities and internet connection. Prices for 2012-13 are to be announced. Weekly price of £72.50 for a 38-week contract in halls of residence, which includes gas, electric and water bills, 24-hour internet, £5,000-worth of personal contents insurance and free car parking.

A new £100,000 law courts facility will be opening in 2012, plus a new tech zone is planned in the social learning zone to offer a mix of PCs and iMacs, plus 60 self-service laptops.

Bolton train and bus station is half a mile away with frequent connections to Manchester. The free metro-shuttle that runs around Bolton town centre also stops at the university. The motorway network is also on the doorstep.
