A spokesperson for Skanda Vale told the BBC they had instructed their solicitors to go about seeking a judicial review against the slaughter notice.
The spokesperson said they had been told they have until next Tuesday to explore legal avenues, as after that date the slaughter notice becomes effective.
Brother Alex said the community would carry not its original suggestion of forming a human chain to prevent the animal being taken away for destruction.
He said they were considering performing a "sanctity of life" service on Tuesday, with a 24-hour vigil over Shambo.
