Serbia's deputy state prosecutor has been arrested in connection with a corruption scandal, police say.

Milorad Cvijovic was accused of forging a legal document to help a businessman to buy shares in a supermarket chain at an artificially low price, police said.

Police arrested nine people in April as part of their inquiry, according to the AFP news agency.

But the businessman wanted in connection with the investigation, Slobodan Radulovic, remains at large.

The interior minister congratulated police on Saturday's arrest.

"There is only one rule for the Interior Ministry and this is that whoever breaks the law will have to be held accountable," Dragan Jocic said.

"I congratulate the police for firmly and unflinchingly adhering to this principle, and for clearly demonstrating that there are no untouchables in our state."
