The Olympic flame was carried across Middlesbrough's landmark Transporter Bridge at the start of day 31 of the relay from href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay/day31" >Middlesbrough to Hull. A torchbearer has proposed to his eight months-pregnant girlfriend during the Olympic relay in Loftus, North Yorkshire.
Crowds gathered to watch as James Coupland, 17, came down from the top of the 225ft (69m) high bridge which is celebrating its 100th birthday. David State, 25, from Redcar, who works with the Scout movement and raises money for charity, knelt as he asked Christine Langham to marry him.
She accepted, to the crowd's delight, and Mr State carried on his stint.
Day 31 will also see the Olympic flame ride on a steam engine as it is carried 109 miles from Middlesbrough to Hull.
