Det Insp Pete Simms, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "It would appear that the ponies were killed in a deliberate act." Police said the ponies had been examined by a vet and their deaths may have been accidental, not criminal.
Enquiries were being made to ascertain exactly how the ponies died, he said. But officers added they were keeping an open mind and enquiries would continue in order to determine what happened.
Det Insp Simms added: "Whilst we are keeping an open mind, we do not believe that there is any link with the recent horse death at Stithians."
In January, a two-and-a-half-year-old stallion was found badly mutilated in a field at Stithians.
