Woman, 78, killed in road crash Police name death crash pensioner

A 78-year-old woman has been killed in a road crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway. A pensioner who was killed in a road crash in Dumfries and Galloway at the weekend has been named as Eleanor Hawthorn, from Northern Ireland.
The woman, who was from Northern Ireland, was involved in a collision with another vehicle driven by a 58-year-old man from Kirkcudbright. Ms Hawthorn died when the red Renault Modus she was driving had a head-on smash with a blue Tata Loadbeta pick-up van.
The man was seriously injured and is currently being treated at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. The collision happened on the A75 near Kirkcudbright at 1250 BST on Saturday.
The incident happened at about 1300 BST on Saturday on the Gretna to Stranraer road near Twynholm. The 58-year-old van driver sustained serious leg injuries in the incident and is being treated in hospital.
