Three Chinese workers have been shot dead in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, police say. Three Chinese workers have been shot dead by suspected Islamic militants in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
A fourth Chinese worker was hurt in the attack at an auto-rickshaw factory. Gunmen shouting religious slogans attacked the Chinese men at a small auto-rickshaw factory. A fourth Chinese worker was wounded in the attack.
"As they were coming out of their factory, they were ambushed," an official of the provincial government told Reuters news agency. Officials believe the attack might be linked to the stand-off at an Islamabad mosque where students are barricaded.
China's ambassador in Islamabad urged Pakistan to "round up the culprits" and protect Chinese workers in the country. That siege began after Islamist students abducted seven Chinese workers they accused of running a brothel.
A police officer told the AFP news agency they were investigating Sunday's attack. The Pakistani government is facing pressure from Beijing to do more to protect Chinese workers in the country.
"All the attackers were bearded and they fled without looting anything," Peshawar police chief Abdul Majeed Marwat told the agency. China's ambassador in Islamabad urged Pakistan to "round up the culprits, properly handle the follow-up issues and take effective measures to protect all the Chinese in Pakistan".
