Two in court over cocaine seizure Two in court over cocaine seizure
(about 6 hours later)
Two men are expected to appear in court in County Cork later following the biggest ever drugs seizure in Ireland. Two men have been charged in connection with a cocaine seizure in west Cork.
Nearly a tonne of cocaine in sealed packages was found in the sea off Mizen Head a week ago. Joe Daly, 40, of Bexley in Kent and Martin Wanden, 44, of no fixed address, both appeared at a court in Skibbereen on Tuesday.
A drugs trafficking gang is thought to have been behind more than 100m euro of cocaine recovered. It is understood that the drugs were bound for England. Mr Daly and Mr Wanden were charged with the possession and possession for sale or supply of cocaine on 2 July at Dunlough Bay, Mizen, Goleen.
The two accused will appear at Skibbereen District Court. They were detained at Bandon Garda Station. Both men were remanded in custody to appear again before the court in Clonakilty on 17 July.
One man has already been charged in connection with the seizure, the biggest in the history of Ireland.
