In a brief statement, Apple said: "Our licence to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store." While the changes to maps and YouTube may not seem earth moving, speculation is now mounting that Apple will oust its rival from its most lucrative iPhone stronghold. The iPhone accounts for two thirds of mobile web browsing, making the position of default search option a major revenue earner for whoever holds it. Apple has already dumped Google in China in preference for the country's native firm Baidu, and in the west may decide to give its prime spot to Yahoo or Microsoft's Bing engine. iOS gets more gimped by the day. First it was Google Maps being taken out, and a inferior replacement patched in with patchy coverage outside the US, then Google Navigation removed, and chargeable TomTom turn-by-turn added in it's place (Itunes navigation credits), and now YouTube is going and some inferior Apple-only rubbish to replace it...iOS gets more gimped by the day. I can't see Apple would go with if they decided to drop Google as the default search engine. Interesting stat. Given that globally Android far outsells the iPhone and even most feature phones have browsers it means that either iPhone users use the internet a heck of a lot or the Guardian is publishing rubbish about Apple again.Interesting stat. Also, I don't know too much about iOS 6, but so far as I can tell they've just removed two very popular features, and offered little in return. Incredibly massive Fail by Apple! - The Android market is already rocketing up and past Apple sales - Google, and Youtube are intrinsic parts of everybodies daily internet experience. This just shows apples increasing arrogance and signals a big dip in sales for them. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is widely proclaimed to be the best smartphone ever created, it lets you do what you want... Only diehard apple fans will buy this, new users and people whom already use the integrated google experience of Android have no reason to change - at least with these silly restrictions!Incredibly massive Fail by Apple! - The Android market is already rocketing up and past Apple sales - Google, and Youtube are intrinsic parts of everybodies daily internet experience. Google will put their own Maps app on the App Store, and you'll have a choice. Why is that bad for the customer? Sounds like Google have had more notice of this than we the users have, and iOS 6 is a couple of months away. I'd be surprised if they didn't either have an app in the App Store or a revamp of their mobile site to coincide with that. Same with their Maps, I bet they'll have something new to offer there too.Sounds like Google have had more notice of this than we the users have, and iOS 6 is a couple of months away. Meh. I can see why Apple have dumped Google Maps. The new iOS Maps are vector based rather than bitmapped images so they are scalable and faster. The YouTube app is similarly outdated now that most YouTube videos are mp4 and play directly in Safari, remember that this wasn't the case when the first iPhone came out. I can't see them dumping Google from the search bar. I relegated them from Firefox for a while but Bing was crap.Meh. I can see why Apple have dumped Google Maps. Yes, that would be interesting. They make money from people using their services, so cutting off a significant portion of users just to push a few of them onto Android phones where, to be fair, Google won't collect all that much more data than any iOS user already using Google services, that would be a bold move indeed.Yes, that would be interesting. Cast your mind back to when the iPhone was first released, YouTube used flash for the most part. The YouTube ios app used H.264 which google had only just started to support. So basically the app existed to circumvent a problem at the time, ios's incompatibility with flash.
Fast forward to now and this is a battle won, flash video is largely a non issue for mobile devices and especially YouTube. It works just fine in the browser. In fact, I've been using the web app for ages (bookmarking YouTube on the homepage) and barely touch the iOS app because it's just not very good, that and I never liked the icon.
So now we get a google made YouTube app, which can follow chrome, maps, gmail, the google app, G+ and god knows what else onto the app store, and everyone is a lot happier.

There's always an app for that. Just because it's not officially put on by apple when you purchase a phone, means jack shit in actual reality. There's always an app for that. Just because it's not officially put on by apple when you purchase a phone, means jack shit in actual reality.

I was talking to my friend the other day who asked me when iphone5 was likely to come out. I basically said... any minute now, but if it's screen did not match Galaxy S3 in size, I would be getting the latter. More and more people are surfing the net on their mobs, so a bigger screen makes so much easier!I was talking to my friend the other day who asked me when iphone5 was likely to come out. I'm really interested to find out what size the screen for iphone 5 will be... I think, this is the thing that will decide its success or lack of.I'm really interested to find out what size the screen for iphone 5 will be... I think, this is the thing that will decide its success or lack of.

Dailymotion has a much reduced user base over YouTube. Vimeo for original content - and for a few copyright infringement full reproductions - would be a better bet.Dailymotion has a much reduced user base over YouTube. And don't make assumptions of users when it's becoming apparent that Firefox is getting ever more bloated to the detriment of its function. And don't make assumptions of users when it's becoming apparent that Firefox is getting ever more bloated to the detriment of its function.
And Google Maps? so long as I have coverage it's perfect as a freebie, particularly for someone who has to visit sites for their job!And Google Maps? so long as I have coverage it's perfect as a freebie, particularly for someone who has to visit sites for their job!

News of any change could come as early as 12 September, the date on which Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5.The iPhone accounts for two thirds of mobile web browsing, making the position of default search option a major revenue earner for whoever holds it.
