Militants attacked the Minhas air base at Kamra, about 60km (35 miles) north-west of the capital Islamabad, in the early hours of Thursday. Several militants wearing military uniforms and suicide belts stormed Minhas air base at Kamra, near the capital Islamabad, just after dawn.
The Pakistani air force said troops had cordoned off the area and that the "terrorists" had been surrounded. Two Pakistani soldiers and six militants were killed, a military spokesman told AFP news agency.
It is not known if there are any casualties. It is not clear if other gunmen remain unaccounted for.

Officials have not declared the situation over, however reporters who reached the scene several hours later said there was no sound of gunfire.
It was not immediately clear how the attackers managed to enter the base.
