Police said the 74-year-old driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead but later died. | |
The road was closed for several hours while the vehicle, owned by Bells of Stamfordham in Northumberland, was recovered. | |
No one from the bus company was available for comment. | |
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the identity of the driver was being withheld until relatives had been informed. |
