Four people have been rescued and a search is continuing for a fifth person after the group got into difficulty in Loch Gairloch in the Highlands. Four children have been rescued and a search is continuing for a man after their canoe capsized in a sea loch in the Highlands.
Stornoway Coastguard said they were responding to reports of children and an adult in the water. The alert was raised at 16:17. Six people were in the boat when it overturned in Loch Gairloch. One man managed to swim to shore and alert Stornoway Coastguard at about 16:15.
The four pulled from the sea loch were taken to hospital by helicopter. Their conditions are not known. The children were flown by helicopter to hospital. Their condition is not known.
A coastguard helicopter and the Portree lifeboat are involved in the rescue. The other man onboard the canoe was not found and the search is ongoing.
Local boats and on shore coastguard teams were assisting. An air ambulance was also sent to the scene. A coastguard helicopter and lifeboats from Portree, Gairloch and Loch Ewe were involved in pulling the children from the water.
