(35 minutes later)
Up to 6,000 jobs have been secured at Airbus's factory in Cheshire following a major order from Philippine Airlines. Airbus has welcomed a £4.5bn order for 54 new aircraft from Philippine Airlines as "excellent news".
The company makes wings for the Airbus at its plant at Broughton, near Chester. The aircraft are being bought as part of a fleet modernisation programme, with deliveries expected to start next year.
It said the £4.5bn deal for 54 A321 and A330 planes was unlikely to create new jobs but would secure existing posts. The wings will be made at the company's factory in Broughton, Flintshire.
Philippine Airlines said the aircraft will be used on its domestic and overseas routes to meet a growing demand in trade and tourism. Philippine Airlines said the aircraft would be used on its domestic and overseas routes to meet a growing demand in trade and tourism.
Airbus has recorded more than 1,200 orders for the various versions of the A330 aircraft, with around 900 now flying with 90 operators throughout the world. Paul McKinlay, head of the Broughton plant, said: "This order by Philippine Airlines is excellent news for Airbus and for the staff at Broughton where the wings for these aircraft will be made.
"The Broughton plant continues to play a major role as part of a hugely successful international company."
