A man is due in court charged with the murders of two police officers and two men in Greater Manchester. The killings of two police officers "shocked and appalled the country", the Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North-West of England has said.
PC Fiona Bone, 32, and her colleague PC Nicola Hughes, 23, suffered fatal injuries in a gun and grenade attack in Mottram, Tameside, on Tuesday. Nazir Afzal commented as he authorised police to charge Dale Cregan, 29, with the murders of PC Fiona Bone, 32, and her colleague PC Nicola Hughes, 23.
Dale Cregan, 29, is accused of their murders. He is also charged with murdering Mark Short and his father David, in separate attacks. They suffered fatal injuries in a gun and grenade attack in Mottram, Tameside, on Tuesday.
He has arrived at Manchester Magistrates' Court under police escort. Mr Cregan is also accused of murdering Mark Short and his father David.

At a news conference on Thursday, Nazir Afzal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said he had authorised Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to bring the charges.
