Tharanga impresses for Sri Lanka Tharanga century fires Sri Lanka
(30 minutes later)
Upul Tharanga continued his fine form to lay the platform for a big total in Sri Lanka's Champions Trophy qualifying game against Zimbabwe in Ahmedabad. Upul Tharanga's second century in as many games put Sri Lanka on course for a big total in their Champions Trophy qualifying game against Zimbabwe.
The opener, who hit a century against Bangladesh, was 68 not out off 86 balls as his side reached 113-2 off 25 overs. Tharanga, who hit 105 in the win over Bangladesh, made 100 off 120 balls and put on an unbroken 126 with Kumar Sangakkara, who was on 56 off 70 balls.
He was supported by Kumar Sangakkara (22no) after Zimbabwe had been boosted by taking two wickets in three overs. That left Sri Lanka on 180-2 after 35 overs against a Zimbabwe side that fielded well but still looked doomed.
Elton Chigumbura brilliantly ran out Sanath Jayasuriya and Anthony Ireland had Mahela Jayawardene caught behind. They were hammered by West Indies on Sunday after being skittled for 85.
