Beatles fans are being urged to come together later to set a world record marking 50 years since the release of the Fab Four's first hit. A choir of more than 1,600 Beatles fans gathered in Liverpool to set a new world record marking 50 years since the release of their first hit, Love Me Do.
The aim is to break the record of 897 voices "singing in a round" by performing Love Me Do. The record was set in Chicago, USA, in 2011. The group met at the Pier Head at 12:00 BST to sing rounds of the song, which reached number 17 in the charts when it was released on 5 October 1962.
The world record attempt will take place at 12:00 BST at the Pier Head in Liverpool. The record of 1,631 people singing in a round was confirmed by a Guinness World Records adjudicator.
Released on 5 October 1962, Love Me Do reached number 17 in the charts. The previous record of 897 voices was set in Chicago in 2011.
That record was set by people singing Danke Schoen, to mark the 25th anniversary of the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
