AJ Daulerio, Gawker's editor-in-chief, who took over in January this year, said the site now does more long-form, original reporting of the type that exposed Brutsch. Another commentator, AuntieEm, summed up the situation best: "This is just an example of free speech working two ways. Michael Brutsch gets to publish photos of unsuspecting women and brag about having sex with his teenage step-daughter and we get to say what we think of him because of it. No prosecution, just a bit of real-world judgement."Another commentator, AuntieEm, summed up the situation best: "This is just an example of free speech working two ways. Amazing how a 49 year old doesn't understand how the concept of Free Speech works. The First Amendment only protects you from government persecution for the things you say. Anyone else can fire you, discriminate against you, ban you or ostracize you. Get over it. he comes across as a braggart in the interview, when he's not whinging and begging to not be outed. he is a coward who thought he could get away with all sorts of despicable behaviour. he is an idiot who deserves whatever he gets, other than donated money from those who feel they are protecting something precious, ie freedom of speech, when they are merely making him feel somehow vindicated for being a horrible, manipulative degenerate of a man.he comes across as a braggart in the interview, when he's not whinging and begging to not be outed. he is a coward who thought he could get away with all sorts of despicable behaviour. he is an idiot who deserves whatever he gets, other than donated money from those who feel they are protecting something precious, ie freedom of speech, when they are merely making him feel somehow vindicated for being a horrible, manipulative degenerate of a man.

Maybe he should have thought of that before violating the privacy of women and girls who had the temerity to post photos of themselves on their own social media sites or, horror of horrors, go into public spaces while looking nice. What he did wasn't illegal - which is why he isn't facing legal sanction. It was, however, of dubious morality. Why has no one pointed out Gawker is the same website who have a stalking page to track celebrities? Chen has and always will have a crusader like fever against reddit. Certain Reddit moderators will always sit a rant on about free speech as a defence and ultimately I feel like no one comes out looking good. Well unless they have him for using company equipment for personal activity, I don't see what grounds they have for firing him. Your quotation about whether he's a creep or not isn't really relevant to this. Being a creep would be a difficult thing to prove or disprove in a court of law. This article makes it sound like he was fired for being a creep, but he could have done all his "trolling" from home and he'd have been untouchable.
In fact, I'd say it hasn't stopped him much, and he's revelling in it. Next stop, porno megastardom!

Many American states, including Texas, are 'At Will' employment states. This basically means either party can terminate employment for reasons good or bad. There are still some discrimination rules that apply and if you have a contract that states a minimum term employment then you might be safe but other than that if your employer doesn't like you, you could be fired. Many American states, including Texas, are 'At Will' employment states. Texas is a so called "right to work" state which means the employer can fire you at any time with no advance warning for any reason or no reason at all.
You only have rights if you are a protected class and you think you were discriminated against. Such as being fired for being a woman, or black, or being too old, etc. Then you can sue the employer.
this guy has no such rights to sue his employer and there is bugger all he can do about losing his job.

In most states in the US, your employer can terminate your employment for any reason at any time at their sole discretion. I also learned that his wife is disabled so they will be in tough times due to lack of health insurance, which is regrettable. He should've thought about that before being a creep. In most states in the US, your employer can terminate your employment for any reason at any time at their sole discretion. This is not an argument in favour of having to keep creeps employed, but in favour of having a health care system and labour legislation that aren't from the 19th century. This is not an argument in favour of having to keep creeps employed, but in favour of having a health care system and labour legislation that aren't from the 19th century.

The real problem is puffed-up amateur ‘moderators’ who set themselves up as judge and jury, and censor material based on their own political and social beliefs. Social sites and online newspapers do themselves no favours by delegating censorship to ‘plebs’ who have no authority and no experience other than their own inflated self-worth as upholders of society's ‘values’.The real problem is puffed-up amateur ‘moderators’ who set themselves up as judge and jury, and censor material based on their own political and social beliefs. As it is Texas, I suspect the only grounds the company need for firing him are "they want to".As it is Texas, I suspect the only grounds the company need for firing him are "they want to".

You can do that, except that it is not true so you have no proof and have opened yourself up to ton of libel suits ( if you're in the UK) or civil suits in the US. Go for it.You can do that, except that it is not true so you have no proof and have opened yourself up to ton of libel suits ( if you're in the UK) or civil suits in the US. Go for it.

He posted to redditt at all hours of the day so it's safe to assume he did use company time. At any rate, in the US, unless you have a special contract, your employer can fire you for whatever they like or no reason at all. They don't have to have grounds for anything at all. His employer had no other option, the guy is a liability to the company and the company has a duty to shareholders that comes before any duty to any employee. That's American labour relations for you.He posted to redditt at all hours of the day so it's safe to assume he did use company time. Can someone set up a 'subreddit' containing photos of him looking progressively more dishevelled and less well-fed as the weeks go by, culminating in photos of him in a cardboard box on the side of the road? I'm sure he'd appreciate this - it would only be 'gallows humour' after all.Can someone set up a 'subreddit' containing photos of him looking progressively more dishevelled and less well-fed as the weeks go by, culminating in photos of him in a cardboard box on the side of the road? Anyone with a shred of knowledge when it becomes to internet culture should know that these places would have existed even without Violentacrez. At least he provided moderation and kept the content legal. Creepy as he was, he doesn’t deserve this uninformed sensationalist abuse

Brutsch wrote: "All my remote access has been disabled, my health insurance and FSA were cancelled immediately (so they had to drag someone in over the weekend to do that). AJ Daulerio, Gawker's editor-in-chief, who took over in January this year, said the site now does more long-form, original reporting of the type that exposed Brutsch. In response to the exposé, numerous Reddit forums censored Chen's article because it violated their rule on identifying site users.
