Thames poses fresh flood threat Fears remain as water levels ease
(about 1 hour later)
Water levels along the River Thames west of London are expected to rise with more heavy rain forecast. Fears of more flooding along the River Thames in Oxfordshire and Berkshire have eased after water levels appear to have stabilised overnight.
Flooding in Oxford could get worse and towns further downstream like Reading and Pangbourne could be at risk. But, in Gloucestershire, more than 340,000 people remain without water supplies and there are fears about sanitation and health.
BBC weather forecasters said flood-hit areas would see heavy rain of 10mm (0.4in) to 15mm (0.6in). Severn Trent Water will try to pump water in from other areas.

The company is supplying more than 1,000 bowsers - while the Army delivered four million bottles of water on Wednesday. The Health Protection Agency says the risk of contracting any illness is generally low but people are advised to avoid coming into direct contact with floodwater.
A spokesman said they were aiming to do four or five refills per day but that one bowser could be emptied in less than half an hour if people filled up large containers. There is a small risk that people may contract a stomach bug if they come into contact with contaminated water, especially where there has been mixing with sewage, it says.
