SDLP west Belfast assembly member Alex Attwood said it was only fair to ask the community what they wanted done with the site.
"If you had been living under the shadow of that building, the old RUC station for all the years of conflict, it's only right and proper that the views of local residents are paramount when it comes to the future of that site," he said.
