A man ran on to the pitch after Leeds had equalised in the game on Friday. Aaron Cawley, 21, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates Court to assault and entering the field.
Aaron Cawley, of Blenheim, Cheltenham, is due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday. He was given a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year football banning order.
The court heard Cawley had been drinking heavily and had already breached two previous banning orders.
The Yorkshire derby ended in a 1-1 draw.
Kirkland, who has played once for England, was pushed to the ground moments after conceding an equaliser in the 76th minute.
