The M1 northbound remains closed in South Yorkshire due to a chemical spill. The M1 in South Yorkshire has reopened after it was closed due to a waste spill.

The southbound carriageway reopened at 13:45 BST, but the link from the M18 southbound to the M1 northbound remains closed. South Yorkshire Fire Service said three people were taken to hospital as a precaution after coming into contact with the waste.
South Yorkshire Fire Service is working to clear away the waste. The Highways Agency said there had been traffic delays in the area.
In a joint statement with South Yorkshire Police, it said: "A small number of people who have come into direct contact with the waste are being washed with water but there is not believed to be any risk to any other member of the public. The fire service said that the waste was "a sludge-like by-product comprising mostly oil, solvent, resin and water."
"A 100m safety cordon is in place as a precaution but drivers who believe they may have driven past the incident, through the waste, are not believed to require any treatment whatsoever." Firefighters set up a 100m safety cordon around the spill but the fire service said the waste "is not believed to be any risk to any other member of the public."
