The alarm was raised by a member of his sea angling party shortly before 1830 BST and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter was scrambled to the scene. The man, who was not wearing a lifejacket, was visible from the shore and said to be 150m from the rocks. He was winched onboard the helicopter, given medical attention but was pronounced dead at Broadford Hospital. Ed Thompson, watch manager at Stornoway Coastguard, said: "While the weather at the time was reported as fine, the sea was rough. "Anyone fishing, or participating in other leisure activities on or near the sea should wear clothing appropriate to the activity - but certainly include lifejackets." |
