South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs will meet India police in Delhi on Thursday to answer questions on match-fixing allegations from 2000. Indian police have begun questioning South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs about match-fixing allegations dating back six years ago.
Gibbs, was greeted by a media frenzy when he flew in to Mumbai on Wednesday before being whisked to the team hotel. Gibbs arrived at police headquarters in Delhi wearing a black T-shirt, white trousers and sunglasses.
He is expected to rejoin the team in time for their Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand on Monday. He is being questioned over a one-day match between India and South Africa in 2000 in which he agreed to underperform in exchange for money.
"He's always been prepared to be forthcoming with the Indian police," said captain Graeme Smith. Gibbs has already served a six-month suspension handed down by his board.
But Indian police commissioner Deependra Pathak said the South African inquiry findings were "not enforceable in India".
Gibbs is hoping to rejoin his team-mates in Mumbai once the questioning is over as South Africa prepare for their first match of the ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand on Monday.

The offer was relayed to him by the then South Africa skipper Hansie Cronje, who was subsequently banned from cricket for life.
