(35 minutes later)
Part of the M4 motorway is likely to be closed for the rest of Monday after a serious crash, police have said. Part of the M4 near Bristol is likely to be closed for most of the day after one person died in a crash.
The road was closed on Monday morning after a crash east of the Second Severn Crossing. The road was closed after a crash east of the Second Severn Crossing between junctions 21 and 20.
Avon and Somerset Police said one man was trapped following the collision on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 21 and 20. Police said the crash involved two lorries and that one person had died. They added the road would be closed for a "significant" part of the day.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and say the M49 should be used as an alternative. Earlier, two men were killed in a car crash on the M1 near Watford, Hertfordshire.
The driver and a passenger in a BMW were killed in the crash with another BMW after 02:30 GMT between junctions four and five.
'Serious injuries'
The southbound carriageway of the M1 is not expected to reopen until mid-morning at the earliest, the Highways Agency said, but the northbound carriageway has reopened.
Another two male passengers in the car were taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, central London.
A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said they had suffered "serious injuries" and an investigation was under way into the cause.
In Bristol, police urged motorists to avoid the area and said the M49 should be used as an alternative.
Traffic is currently queuing back as far as the toll booths on the Welsh side of the Second Severn Crossing.
