A group of 10 members of staff at a Yorkshire college have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences, according to the UK Border Agency.

The agency said it made four arrests at Leeds Professional College, George Mann Road, Leeds.

Six further arrests were made at separate residential addresses in South and West Yorkshire.

The agency said that the arrested included eight Pakistani men and a British man and woman.

English lessons

Adrian Watkins, from the UK Border Agency, said the arrests were the culmination of a six-month investigation into the college.

He said: "Today we have arrested ten individuals who we believe are part of an organised crime group involved in systematic breaches of immigration law via this college.

"These individuals have now been taken into custody for questioning."

On its website the college said it offers courses in business and leadership as well as English lessons.

The college is listed as a "Highly Trusted Sponsor" on the UK Border Agency's register of colleges and is "licensed to sponsor migrants".
