Three people who were arrested in connection with the murder of a teenage mother in Tyneside have been released on bail, police said.

A 15-year-old girl, a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s were released after being questioned by police.

Samantha Madgin, 18, was stabbed a mile from her home in an alley in Wallsend late on Thursday night. She later died from her injuries.

Police are looking for at least two people who may have vital information.

They have also urged others who witnessed the violence to come forward.

The stabbing happened in an alley near Victoria Avenue and Albert Avenue at 2350 BST on Thursday.

'Loving mother'

Chief Supt Steve Storey said they wanted to find people present in Victoria Avenue, Albert Avenue, Harle Street and the surrounding area at the time of the altercation.

"There was clearly some sort of disturbance going on which has led to a young woman losing her life.

"We know there was an altercation between two groups. Samantha was in one of these groups.

"We also need to speak to another man and a woman who were possibly involved in the disturbance last night to come forward and speak to police."

A family friend said Ms Madgin was a new mother who loved her baby.

"She was a really nice young girl with nice manners and was a pleasure to know.

"She seemed to be a loving mother and very dedicated. She was an attractive young girl.

"To have something like this on our doorstep is unreal. It is not that kind of area, it is a very close-knit community."

Friends and relatives of Ms Madgin have laid flowers near to the murder scene.
