CCTV examined
The girl, who lives in the Winton area, underwent an operation for her facial injuries and is now in a stable and comfortable condition at Poole Hospital.
Officers have been speaking to witnesses and also examining CCTV footage at the pub.
Police said the little girl was at the pub with her mother who was a customer.
The owner of the dog, a man who comes from Bournemouth, was with the dog at the pub when the incident happened.
He is being questioned by police but has not been arrested.
