Operation Yewtree officers arrest man Max Clifford arrested in sex offences investigation

Metropolitan Police officers have arrested another man as part of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into historic sex offences. Max Clifford, one of the UK's leading public relations experts, has been arrested by detectives investigating historic sex offences.
In a brief statement, Scotland Yard said that officers had arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation. The BBC understands that Mr Clifford was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers working on Operation Yewtree.
The man was arrested at 07:40 GMT on suspicion of sexual offences and taken to a central London police station. Scotland Yard said officers had arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of sexual offences and had taken him to central London police station.
The individual is the sixth to be questioned as part of the operation. Max Clifford is one of the most influential figures in British media.

Beyond the police, the Department of Health are investigating into its own conduct in appointing Jimmy Savile to lead a "taskforce" to oversee the management of high security psychiatric hospital Broadmoor in 1998 and it is also probing Savile's activities at Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. Scotland Yard said the man arrested on Thursday morning had been arrested as part of this last category of the operation.
The Director of Public Prosecutions is also reviewing a historic decision by the Crown Prosecution Service not to prosecute Savile amid allegations before he died.
